Marquis de Laguiche!
Chassagne-Montrachet is one of the
three prestigious villages of the "Côte des Blancs" with Meursault
and Puligny-Montrachet. It is also where some of the world's best chardonnays
are made. At the heart of the vineyard, the remains of Morgeot Abbey (which was
once the home of the Laguiche family) overlooks the vineyard. Maurice Drouhin
and the Marquis Philibert de Laguiche met during the war. At the end of WW2, in
1947, the Marquis gave Maison Joseph Drouhin the full rights over the wine-making
and commercialization of its Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru. Decades later,
the gentlemen's agreement still exists.
